The all-electric 2022 Bollinger B2 looks primitive but puts traditional pickup trucks on notice thanks to its impressive capacities and incredible versatility. The B2 electric pickup truck is the big brother of the B1. Twin DNA. Same everything inside and out, except the long bed mullet haircut. A completely badass electric truck capable of carrying 16-foot cargo through a patented full-length pass-through. With the rear seats out, you can transport a hefty stack of 4×8’s with the tailgate closed. The upcoming pickup is essentially a stretched version of the upstart brand’s B1 SUV with a cargo bed out back. Bollinger says the B2’s dual electric motors combine for 614 horsepower and 688 lb-ft of torque, which help it tow up to 7500 pounds and carry a payload up to 5001 pounds. Its battery supports fast-charging capability and is estimated to provide a driving range of 200 miles. The B2 also boasts foldable and removable body panels that imitate the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Gladiator, and unlock unrivaled flexibility.
The B2’s interior design takes simplicity to a new level. There’s no navigation system or radio, but the seats are comfortable and heated, and the materials include real wood and metal. Versatility triumphs over comfort in the Bollinger B2 pickup truck. One of its most defining features is a hollowed-out interior that allows an item up to 16 feet long pass through its center. The cabin also has a fold-away rear wall—yes, much like the “Midgate” on the original Chevy Avalanche—that opens it up and extends the 5-foot-9-inch cargo bed by more than two feet. Much like the aforementioned Jeep products, the B2 has removable body panels that include the doors, windows, roof panels, and windshield. It doesn’t have many features (standard or optional) beyond air conditioning and heated seats. The truck does also provides standard Bluetooth, six 110-volt outlets, and an audio system.
Every B2 features all-wheel drive made possible by two electric motors, one mounted at the front and the other mounted at the rear. Together they generate 614 horsepower and 668 lb-ft of torque; Bollinger claims they will propel the B2 from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and enable an estimated top speed of 100 mph. Bollinger supplies its pickup truck with a 120-kWh battery pack that is expected to deliver an EPA-rated driving range of 200 miles. The company claims the battery can be replenished in 10 hours using a 220-volt outlet, but it’s also compatible with DC fast-charging that’ll reduce that time to 75 minutes. Bollinger also says the pickup truck will have a two-speed transfer case with high and low ranges for added off-road capability. Likewise, the B2 is said to have variable ground clearance that ranges from 10 to 20 inches. The electric pickup also has a maximum tow capacity of 7500 pounds and a max payload of 5001 pounds. Bollinger estimates that the B2 pickup will earn 70 MPGe.
Bollinger raised the beltline or “shoulder” of the truck to allow for more packaging space for the components under the frunk, but also to raise the overall occupant head clearance. This visually impacted the exterior design in a positive way, by keeping a majority of the visual weight below that beltline (the chamfer that runs the length of the body side, just below the hood), it creates a more stable and sturdy appearance. The major change that drove exterior design adjustments came from our breakthrough in thermal management. We were able to reduceoverall radiator size and utilize one slim cooling unit behind the bumper where it would receive better airflow. The dual, top mounted radiators were no longer required, which allowed us to widen the frunk significantly. Bollinger moved the headlights outboard, creating a similar mounting strategy as the rear lights, allowing further symmetry in our design.
