As one of Volkswagen’s best selling cars the Tiguan has been a huge success for the German brand, which is now extending it’s range with the new Tiguan R. With the release of the Arteon R and now Tiguan R, Volkswagen seem to be happy pumping out R versions across their line-up. Powering the show is the same powertrain and drivetrain used in the Arteon R and upcoming Mk8 Golf R. That means a EA888 2.0L turbocharged inline 4 engine in the updated evo4 spec, producing peak power of 320 PS (235 kW) and peak torque of 320 lb-ft (434 Nm). A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will send power to all four wheels with a ‘torque splitter’ torque vectoring clutch pack on the rear axle. The R logo at the rear signalises: this new family member will take you on a sporty ride – and what’s more, it’ll be fast. With 235 kW (320 PS) and maximum torque of 420 Nm you can feel the dynamics every time you drive it.
This sports model comes with its own DCC sports running gear with switchable race mode, progressive steering and a new all-wheel drive: the 4MOTION system with R performance torque vectoring offers you a new level of driving dynamics thanks to the variable force distribution on the rear wheels developed by Volkswagen R performance experts. The optional R performance titanium exhaust system from Akrapovič provides a special sound experience. To make the Tiguan R a bit more sporty, Volkswagen have lowered the suspension by 10mm, enlarged the brakes, fitted larger 21-inch wheels, included changeable driver modes and optional Akrapovic titanium exhaust. The standard 21-inch “Estoril” alloy wheels give the all-rounder its racing character. The exterior styling deletes some chrome highlighting in favour of gloss black, and front and rear facias look slightly more aggressive with a few more strakes and larger openings.
You can enjoy absolute control and comfort in the exclusive sports seats with integrated head restraint. The optional top-of-the-range comfort seat is even better. The Nappa leather upholstery is a visual reflection of the interior equipment. Visible by a mere glance at the exterior, particularly the remodelled vehicle front. The radiator grille with R logo, the distinctive bumpers, and air intakes in black add that extra dash of style to its proven top class design. The black-painted diffuser completes the sporty, emotional appearance. It’s also a great feeling with both hands on the multifunction sports steering wheel, and the clearly structured cockpit means you have all the important information within sight.
