GTA is the legendary acronym born in 1965 for Giulia Gran Turismo Alleggerita, literally “lightened Gran Turismo”, a special tuned version of the Giulia Sprint GT built from Autodelta. On 2 March 2020, Alfa Romeo introduced two new GTA and model which would have a limited production run of 500 units. The GTA version are developed to celebrate the marque’s 110th anniversary in 2020, and pay tribute to one of the most emblematic automobile of Alfa Romeo: Giulia GTA. To celebrate Alfa Romeo’s 110th anniversary, Alfa Romeo used the same recipe, adding power and reducing weight, to deliver the best ever Alfa Romeo driving experience, in a limited and capped number of units. The success of the Giulia GTA in competitions was immediate, allowing it to enter the collective imagination as an undisputed among the sports cars of the ‘Biscione’. It has won three consecutive “Challenge Europeo Marche”, dozens of national championships and hundreds of single races in every part of the world. And the way this Alfa Romeo ramped up the image of the entire range was also impressive: Giulia Sprint GTA expressed the claim “A victory a day in your everyday car” to perfection.
The new Giulia GTA and GTAm engine is an enhanced version of the Alfa Romeo 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo engine with 540 HP which leads to a best in class power output of 187 PS/l. As they are derived from our state-of-the-art performance sedan, also the mechanics of the new Giulia GTA and new Giulia GTAm embody the highest expression of Alfa Romeo engineering in the name of power. Thanks to the adoption of ultralight materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum and composites, both models achieve outstanding results in terms of power to weight ratio. The Giulia GTAm features a weight reduction of up to 100 kg versus Giulia Quadrifoglio MY21. The GTA use the same engine, rated at 540 PS (397 kW; 533 hp) and are 100 kilograms (220 lb) lighter than the Quadrifoglio, allowing for a power to weight ratio of 2.82 kg/PS. The GTA can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, with launch control. The GTA’s handling was improved by widening the front and rear track by 50 millimetres (2.0 in).
Customers who purchase new Giulia GTA will receive a dedicated experience pack featuring: a personalized GTA open-face Bell helmet, designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo for GTA. The car is fitted with single nut wheels for weight reduction measures. Broader fenders cover the additional width. New springs, shocks, and bushings update the suspension as further means to improve the handling. Buyers will also receive a “personalized experience package” which includes a Bell racing helmet in special GTA livery, a full racing suit by Alpinestars, a personalized Goodwool car cover, and a specific driving course devised by the Alfa Romeo Driving Academy. Modifications to the engine include higher boost pressure from the turbochargers, an Akrapovič exhaust system and redesigned pistons to ensure constant power and reliability: the cooling system now uses four quarts oil instead of two as is the case on Quadrifoglio model.
