The 2022 Subaru Legacy (BW) is the seventh generation of the Legacy range of mid-size cars, with the station wagon version the Subaru Outback (BT) being the sixth generation of the Legacy-based Outback range. It made its debut at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show on February 7, 2019 and went on sale in the third quarter of 2019. Unlike the previous generations, the seventh gen Legacy will not be sold in Japan and Australia due to disappointing sales for its predecessor. Series production of the seventh generation Legacy and sixth generation Outback started in July 2019. The 2022 model year Legacy was moved to the Subaru Global Platform (SGP), which is torsionally stiffer compared to the previous generation Legacy. The base model of the Legacy gains standard 17-inch aluminum wheels for 2022, and Premium and Sport trims now come with air vents on the back of the center console for rear-seat passengers. The Sport also now comes standard with a power sunroof, blind-spot monitoring, and rear automated emergency braking. The Legacy is for those who prefer the on-road look and appreciate the traditional sedan body style. To go along with its conventional shape, the Legacy offers a spacious cabin with plentiful safety and driver-assistance features, not to mention a host of connectivity features. Subaru introduced an all-new Legacy for the 2020 model year so Subaru won’t make many revisions in this third model year. The only announced changes are on the Premium trim (now features rear ventilation in the center console for better climate control throughout the cabin, and the Legacy Sport receives several upgrades including Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert; Power Moonroof; and Reverse Automatic Braking. On its volume products, Subaru typically introduces all-new models on a five-year product cycle. Since the 2022 model will be the third year of the model cycle, there aren’t many changes. Dimensions, sheet metal, and most specifications will be identical.

The Touring XT is powered by a 260-horsepower direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine for extra power and exhilarating performance while still delivering up to 32 MPG and nearly 600 miles of range. The Touring XT takes the capable power and refined style of the Legacy even further. It features a 260-horsepower direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® engine that delivers 277 pound-feet of torque.
The 2022 Subaru Legacy EyeSight has been found to reduce rear-end crashes with injuries by up to 85%. The 2022 Legacy is a 2021 IIHS Top Safety Pick+. The 2022 Legacy features standard EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, which monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control, and warns you when you’re swaying outside your lane. The Pre-Collision Braking feature can apply full braking force and bring you to a complete stop in emergency situations. Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering can take some of the stress out of driving by helping with steering, braking, and throttle control – both in daily traffic and on long road trips. The 2022 Legacy features a state-of-the-art system to help reduce distracted driving for both new and experienced drivers.
