The Lotus Evija is a limited production electric sports car to be manufactured by British automobile manufacturer Lotus Cars. The name Evija (pronounced eh-VIE’-ya) is derived from Eve of the Abrahamic religions, a name whose etymology can be traced back to the Biblical Hebrew חי, meaning ‘alive’, or ‘living’. While many rivals offer hybrid powertrains, this model commits to being fully electric, and it comes with an ultrafast charging setup. Unveiled in July 2019, it is the first electric vehicle to be introduced and manufactured by the company. Evija is the perfect name for our new car because it is the first all-new car to come from Lotus as part of the wider Geely family. With Geely’s support we are set to create an incredible range of new cars which are true to the Lotus name and DNA.

Its exterior design takes cues from race cars built to dominate the track. The car’s sheetmetal includes elements such as butterfly doors and a large rear wing. Best of all, however, is what this car offers from its four electric motors: The Evija delivers almost 2000 horsepower, and Lotus claims this makes it the most powerful production car on the planet. Codenamed “Type 130”, its production will be limited to 130 units with each priced at more than $2 million. It’ll be sold in the U.S. but won’t be street legal here.

The Evija equipped with technology that’s designed to make charging the battery almost as quick as getting a fill-up at the gas pump. The car takes just 12 minutes for an 80 percent charge, and a full charge takes a mere 18 minutes. The Evija is powered by a 70 kWh battery pack developed in conjunction with Williams Advanced Engineering, with electric motors supplied by Integral Powertrain. The four individual motors are placed at the wheels and each is rated at 368 kW (500 PS; 493 hp), for a combined total output of 1,472 kW (2,001 PS; 1,974 hp) and 1,700 N⋅m (1,254 lb⋅ft) of torque. This Lotus hypercar is able to travel up to 250 miles between charges. The company claims the Evija weighs just over 3700 pounds, making it supposedly the lightest EV hypercar ever to enter production.

Lotus claims they generate a total output of 1972 horsepower and 1254 lb-ft of torque. That’s almost double the horsepower provided by more expensive hypercars such as the Aston Martin Valkyrie. A single-speed automatic transmission governs it all, sending power to all four wheels. The car’s light curb weight is designed to optimize handling. The Evija has magnesium wheels with diameters of 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear. It uses Pirelli Trofeo R tyres and AP Racing carbon ceramic disc brakes. Lotus claims the Evija will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 3 seconds, from 0 to 299 km/h (186 mph) in under 9 seconds, and achieve a top speed of over 320 km/h (200 mph). Target CO2 emissions 0.0 g/km, Target range 215miles (346Km), Target consumption 17.25 KWh/100km (WLTP combined).
