On 3 March 2020, Bugatti introduced the Chiron Pur Sport, a handling-focused model which will be limited to 60 units. The 2021 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is the latest development of the record-breaking Chiron. Engineered for winding roads, the Pur Sport is fitted with cutting-edge weight-saving measures and a new aerodynamic configuration generating more downforce. Where the Chiron’s engineered for speed, the Pur Sport is developed for those who yearn for corners and challenging roads. An optional split paintwork features exposed carbon fibre on the entire bottom third of the vehicle to create the appearance of a lowered profile. The design focus of the Pur Sport is to build on the Chiron’s elegance with an additional dose of confidence. Wide air inlets and an enlarged horseshoe panel serve perfectly as radiator air outlets.

The tachometer has an additional 200 rpm, increasing the redline to 6,900 rpm. 80 percent of the transmission has been revised for a 15 percent closer gear-ratio spread benefiting the power band. The Pur Sport is 50 kg (110 lb) lighter than the standard Chiron due to a lightweight 3D printed titanium exhaust, a fixed rear spoiler and extensive use of Alcantara, anodised aluminium and titanium on the interior. The wheels have special spokes called “aero blades” which are designed to channel turbulent air near the wheel down the side of the vehicle to the rear diffuser. The tyres are Michelin Sport Cup 2R increasing lateral grip by 10 percent, and were co-developed with Michelin. To improve handling, the springs were made 65 percent stiffer at the front and 33 percent at the rear, aided by revised damper tuning and wheel camber along with additional front and rear carbon-fibre anti-roll bars and a new Sport+ drive mode.

Powered by the same quad-turbo W16 from the Bugatti Chiron, with 1,500hp and 1,600 Nm the changes to the Pur Sport aren’t within the engine, but within the transmission. Bugatti engineers designed and built a new gearbox that features an overall gear ratio that guarantees more dynamic handling and further improves power distribution, meaning acceleration from 60-120km/h is over four seconds faster than the Chiron. At the same time, they were able to increase the maximum engine speed by 200rpm to 6,900rpm. Overall, 80 per cent of the transmission has been revised. Gears are now closer together, enabling shorter gear jumps. A Sport + mode slows the traction control system from interfering to allow more skilled drivers to enjoy the full dynamic ability of the Pur Sport through fast corners.

Inside, the interior is deliberately focused and raw; extravagances are reduced to the bare minimum. Many surfaces normally clothed in leather are upholstered in Alcantara and dynamic patterns have been lasered onto the door panels with contrasting fabric highlights with a metal look. At the rear, the Pur Sport carries a 1.9 metre rear spoiler to generate downforce for sure-footed cornering and stability at high speeds. Cutting-edge new additions, including extremely lightweight, highly temperature resistant exhaust tailpipes made of 3D-printed titanium, help to cut weight and improve performance. New magnesium wheels further reduce weight by 16kg, featuring optional aero blades for wheel ventilation whilst boosting aerodynamics. Bugatti worked closely with Michelin to develop exclusive tyres for the 2021 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport that offer more grip compared with the standard Chiron tyre and boosts lateral acceleration by 10 percent.
