The Gemballa MIG-U1 is based on the Ferrari Enzo, in limited numbers. It is a custom made car for Mustafa and Ilyas Galadari from Dubai: Their initials form the Name “MIG”. More than ten years after its original debut, its performance statistics still earn it a place at the top table of super sportscars. With a few modifications, GEMBALLA increased the power of the V12 motor from 660 to 700 hp, while the enhanced torque of 720 Nm means its twisting force now exceeds that of the ultra-rare FXX track-only version. All MIG body components are made from carbon-fibre, their form developed in the wind tunnel for low drag and improved downforce. The weight reduction and enhanced output result in a 0-62 mph time of 3,1 seconds, while the improved downforce confers good stability even at the cars top speed of over 224 mph. Today, most of the surviving examples of the 399 cars built are in the hands of collectors, and their appreciating value means that the chance of seeing one on the road is becoming increasingly slim. However, the ‘Holy Grail’ for Enzo enthusiasts who trawl exotic car websites is the MIG, which GEMBALLA built around the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari in a strictly limited edition of five cars.

As it is so powerful to start with the Enzo’s V12 motor only needs to be lightly modified to achieve headline numbers. In MIG trim, the naturally-aspirated engine sees its 660 hp/485 kW output increased to a more satisfying 700 hp/515 kW, while torque goes up from 657 Nm to 720 Nm. The first step is a specially designed stainless-steel exhaust that lowers backpressure. Then the ECU is remapped to make full use of the better breathing, and optimise all other relevant parameters. Temperature management is always a big issue with mid-engined cars. The provision of air ducts on the roof and behind the doors to enhance engine cooling allows the GEMBALLA engineers to run the ignition timing closer to the knock sensor. Thus modified, the GEMBALLA MIG accelerates to 100 km/h in an incredible 3.1 seconds, and reaches a Vmax of more than 360 km/h. The GEMBALLA exhaust system with its valve control system makes the MIG-U1 growl and shriek like a dangerous animal. The MIG’s combination of stunning looks, huge performance and raw emotion make it stand out as another automotive masterpiece from the house of GEMBALLA.

Visually reminiscent of the Russian MIG-25 Foxbat fighter aircraft due to its angular lines and air management elements, the new panels on the MIG-U1 make it wider 80 mm wider in front, and 100 mm wider at the rear than the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari. All the GEMBALLA aerodynamic components are made in Germany from carbon-fibre. The use of state-of-the-art digital measuring equipment on the original car makes for a perfect fit of the new parts to the OE attachment points, as well as ensuring consistent panel gaps. Just as a major car manufacturer would, GEMBALLA’s developed its initial aerodynamic proposal for the AVALANCHE with a combination of aesthetic styling and computer calculations. Combined with raw experience, this delivered an approximate level of aerodynamic efficiency for the new components, which was then honed to perfection in the wind tunnel. GEMBALLA places great emphasis on overall aerodynamic design with the multiple aims of improving acceleration and top speed, reducing fuel consumption, and enhancing stability at speed. Because the base car is the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari, the cornerstone of the GEMBALLA is rarity and a simultaneous statement of excellence. GEMBALLA has created a dream car with an even more independent character. Limited to just five copies, the MIG takes the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari’s exclusivity to an all time high.

The ultra-light GEMBALLA GTR Racing wheels are an important part of the MIG high performance concept. These forged alloy wheels combine high strength with very low weight. Despite their larger 10.0J x 19 and 13.0J x 20-inch dimensions, compared to the 9.0J and 13.0J x 19-inch OE wheels, the set of four GEMBALLA wheels is actually 16 kg lighter. This lower unsprung mass translates into a clear handling advantage and helps optimise the performance of the coil-over adjustable suspension whose spring pans are height adjustable, and dampers feature separate bounce and rebound control. The suspension links are fully Rose-jointed for optimum precision and feedback at the wheel on both road and track. A practical feature is the electro-hydraulic lift system that raises all four corners of the car by 45mm to clear speed bumps and car park ramps. Normal ride height is resumed at a touch of the button, or automatically when the car reaches 80 km/h. The performance deficiency of the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari’s brake system when worked hard leaves an even bigger impression on a driver than its acceleration. To reduce brake fade to a minimum, the MIG’s new front and rear wheel arches incorporate extra cooling ducts. The focused flow of brake cooling air now guarantees optimal braking performance, even in sustained track driving.
